High Tea for Macmillan

Yesterday our congregation and many friends joined us from their homes in a special Afternoon Tea to raise funds for the Macmillan cancer support charity.

We were conscious that this year all our fund raising coffee mornings had been cancelled and we were very aware that charities were finding it difficult to raise funds.

The remote Afternoon Tea event was an idea of Julie M one of the church council and she organised and made all the tea hampers with help from the bakers Val, Vernie and Eileen along with Hollie and Jackie packing and Julie our Pastor assisting with deliveries.

A magnificent effort by all of you to prepare 147 finger sandwiches and 196 portions of cake not to mention tying 98 pretty ribbons to adorn the bags - thank you for all of your hard work!

Everyone who ordered a hamper received sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and cake - they just had to make their own pot of tea!

Some shared the tea with their household or support bubble, some chatted to family or friends by telephone during the tea and others joined together on a zoom call so it was also a social occasion.

Several people commented on the beautiful presentation and the wonderful taste and one said a dull November day had been transformed!

As some of the food was donated and additional monetary donations were made by those not able to buy a hamper the whole event raised in excess of £360.00 for Macmillan - a wonderful amount for a very worthy cause.

Thank you again to Julie and the team for all your hard work - we will have to do it again in the future!
