Christmas Message from Pastor Julie

I cannot believe we’re at this time of the year already, every year it creeps up on us when we are busy. Recently when I was in York the Christmas market was in full swing and the National Trust properties that we visited while we were away had all been decorated beautifully for Christmas.  Yet once again I struggled to find Christmas cards that had a religious theme, or even an advent calendar that was religious.  The meaning of the season being lost in the commercialisation of the event.

In mid November I posted the message of Christmas on our Facebook page but it was only seen or liked by a few people.  We need to be talking about hope, peace, love and salvation, for this is what Jesus came for, to bring the world a hope, to fill it with His peace, to show God’s love to the world and by His death to bring us freedom from our sins.  But where is this message this Christmas time?

We need to be shouting this message from the very rooftop of our Church, and this is why I we produced a leaflet delivered to the local people to explain what Christmas is about.  Somehow our Country has lost the courage to stand up and say we believe in Christmas, the real Christmas, the Christmas of Christ. But in our broken world we need Jesus more than ever.

Please this Christmas time, let’s shout about Jesus, let's invite people to our services without fear or shame, let us be bold in proclaiming the message of Jesus to people at this time.

I will be writing a bible passage on the Church Facebook page every day during December, so a little bit like an advent calendar we will be focusing on Jesus. Please, if you have FB do like the post and it will reach more people.

For us this time has real meaning, so let us begin to focus not on the commercialisation but on Jesus, the child lying in a Manger, arms outstretched, ready for us to hold him.

Today, we are called to be like John the Baptist, to prepare the way for Jesus to shine as a light in the desert.

This Christmas we should not be afraid to say ‘I am a Christian and I believe that Christmas is about Christ’.

We are called to celebrate the gift of the Son of God into our world, into our lives.

This Christmas, let us put Christ where he belongs, at the very centre, let us point others towards the child in the manger.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year

       With every blessing, Julie x
