Preparing for Pentecost

Pentecost is the third largest Christian festival of the year after Christmas and Easter. Jesus promised his disciples that after he left them to return to heaven he would send them a helper. Pentecost is the celebration of that helper - the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost Sunday is fifty days after Easter Sunday and officially marks the end of the Easter season, This year is on May 24th, please join us for a joyful service of celebration.

Acts chapter 2 tells us about the coming of the Holy Spirit - what happened on that day and how the disciples reacted and the life of the early Christian believers in the weeks which followed. The Holy Spirit enabled the disciples to spread the word of Jesus to many nations.

We hear in verses 2-4

Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
