Opening Words:

You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.  You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.  The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;  the hills are clothed with gladness. The meadows are covered with flocks  and the valleys are mantled with grain;  they shout for joy and sing.

Psalm 65:9-13

This years Harvest is supporting the  'Ripple Effect' charity which was formerly 'Send a Cow'. They support farmers in African countries to grow more crops and raise animals to improve their ability to support themselves, their families and sell extra to the community.

Offering - a form of worship as this provides money to sustain the church and outreach to the community.

Hymn 1209 My heart is filled with thankfulness

Bible Reading: Joel 2:21-32

God gives us everything we need, This passage then speaks of the coming of the Holy Spirit, and the greatest gift of all to us, His Son.

Activity - Harvest Shuffle

Some letters HARVEST, Let's see what words we can make with these letters.

Volunteers hold up the letters to spell the word harvest, it can also spell eat, tears, starve and share.

We are called to share the goodness of  God to us, with others.

This is the lesson of HARVEST

Hymn 1259 Bless the Lord O my soul

Bible Readings: Acts 2:42-47 and Ephesians 4:1-16

Talk - Our Church

As a church we have been in Blaby for many years, (since the mid 1800's) - initially in what is now the Antiques Centre on Sycamore Street, Blaby. Flooding of the building meant that we had to find a new location. Fortunately

79 Park Road was being sold, and the original owners cut their garden in half and gave us the land to build on.

Extensive fundraising by the church members meant that this church could be built.

The foundations being laid in ??

The sign over the door says 1929.

This building has stood the test of time, the outer walls remain the same but the inside is very much changed with the addition of toilets at the front door. In addition we have added the schoolroom and more recently have fitted a new kitchen and a walkway from the kitchen to the school room. The pulpit area has also changed with removal of the rails allowing access to the carpeted area.

We are here today because of the foresight of those who built this place and those who continue to worship here weekly.

We are called, like the early church to meet together to pray, to read and to sing, to share communion and food.

Called to work together in unity with other Christians – such as the Churches together movement.

We are called to show to our community the love of God, to move outside the walls, to stand where Jesus stood, where the people are.

May God bless us today as we continue to be the light shining in the darkness.  May  He fill us with His Spirit and give us insight to help this Church to grow spiritually and numerically.

Amen
