How do we prepare for Easter?
Before Easter there is a period of time called Lent which lasts for 40 days. Lent is a time of preparation for the suffering of Jesus and 40 days is a significant number in the Bible (Jesus also was tempted for 40 days in the desert).
Christians observe lent usually by giving up something - often chocolate, meat or alcohol, to help them think about Jesus's suffering and show they have self control. Lent starts after Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day) which in historically was the day to use up eggs, sugar and other foods as pancakes before having a very basic diet of bread and vegetables during Lent.
This year why not give up some of your time during Lent to study the Bible or pray? Or donate money to charity by joining one of the Lent lunches in Blaby, all profit goes to Christian Aid.
Our Church will take part in the following activities during Lent, all at Blaby Congregational Church unless alternative venue is listed:
Wednesday 18th February at 7pm we will join our friends from All Saints at the Ash Wednesday Service at All Saint's Church.
Lent Studies using the study book 'Notes on an Execution' for 4 weeks. We will study the final week of Jesus's life through eye witness accounts. The dates are all Wednesdays on 25th February, and 4th, 18th and 25th March.
Lent lunches on three Saturdays. Join us for soup and bread followed by dessert and tea or coffee for a minimum donation of £5 for Christian Aid.
